Anwatin Middle School in Minneapolis was locked down for a short time Tuesday morning after staff received reports that a student had brought a weapon to school.
Police confiscated a BB gun from a student and the school was reopened by 9 a.m., a Minneapolis Public Schools spokesperson said. Minneapolis police said students were safe and secure on Tuesday morning.
The middle school serves sixth- through eighth-graders. District officials said they couldn't comment on whether the student who brought the BB gun to school was arrested or otherwise disciplined.
A police spokesperson said one person was taken into custody, but information about whether that person was a student or adult was not immediately available.
The district's weapon policy says a student who brings a weapon into a school should be considered for suspension, and that a recommendation for expulsion may be forwarded to the superintendent.
