Minnesota DFL U.S. Sen. Amy Klobuchar is the co-sponsor of a bill that she says will help prevent terrorists from entering the United States.

Currently, the Visa Waiver Program allows citizens of 38 countries to travel to the United States without a visa for stays of 90 days or less if they meet certain requirements.

The new legislation would require people who have traveled to Syria or Iraq in the last five years to get a tourist visa. It would also require that people without a visa get photographed, fingerprinted and carry an electronic passport.

MPR's Cathy Wurzer spoke with Klobuchar.
