Daily Digest: GOP debate and Clinton speech

Good morning and happy Wednesday. It was a big news day yesterday, so let's get right to it.

1. Let's start with the Republican candidates' debate in Las Vegas. It was a long night, so here's the quick summary. Bush attacked Trump; Cruz and Rubio attacked each other; Christie attacked the Senate. (New York Times)

2. Did I mention it was a long debate? CNN's Wolf Blitzer seemed unable to ween himself from the countdown clock, and said more than an hour into it, "we're just getting started." Here's one take on the winners and losers. (Washington Post)

3. And what would a debate be without a fact check? (Politifact)

4. Shortly before the GOP contenders blasted her and President Obama for their record on terrorism, Democratic frontrunner Hillary Clinton was in Minneapolis talking about how to fight ISIS. (MPR News)

5. Meanwhile, in what was probably the most substantial development of the day, House Speaker Paul Ryan said he reached a budget deal with Democrats that will avoid a government shutdown. (Politico)
