The nine leading Republican candidates focused largely on foreign policy, national security and immigration during the prime-time event.
Tuesday's debate was the first for Republicans since the attacks in Paris and San Bernardino, Calif., which heightened fears of terrorism in the United States.
The candidates are Sen. Rand Paul, Gov. John Kasich, Gov. Chris Christie, former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina, former Gov. Jeb Bush, Sen. Marco Rubio, Sen. Ted Cruz, Dr. Ben Carson and businessman Donald Trump.
The Dec. 15, 2015, event was hosted by CNN, Facebook and Salem Communications with Wolf Blitzer, Dana Bash and Hugh Hewitt.
