Mpls. cops seek public's help after 3 armed robberies in 3 days near U

Three armed robberies in three days near the University of Minnesota campus are prompting police to ask for the public's help identifying suspects.

Minneapolis police detailed two crimes occurring Wednesday night and early Thursday where victims were approached by two males, ages 20 to 25, armed with a handgun.

The first took place around 8th Street SE and 14th Avenue SE. One suspect was described as about 6 feet to 6 feet 2 inches tall wearing a dark colored jacket; the other was believed to be about 5 feet 7 inches or 5 feet 9 inches tall wearing a light colored winter jacket.

The second incident involved a robbery at The Bridges Apartments at 930 University Ave. SE. Suspects were also thought to be 20 to 25 years old; both were described as 6 feet 2 inches. One suspect wore a dark colored hoodie with red sweat pants.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). The case numbers for these crimes are: 16-021454 and 16-021696.

Those robberies followed a call on Tuesday when Minneapolis police responded to the report of an aggravated robbery near 11th Avenue SE and Sixth Street SE, near the Pillsbury Court Apartments.

University police say the victim in that incident was a U student who was approached by two suspects who displayed a gun and demanded his valuables. "The victim surrendered cash and his ID, and the suspects fled southbound," university police said, adding the victim was not injured but that detailed suspect descriptions were not immediately available.

Anyone with information about that incident should also contact Minneapolis police. The reference case number is MP-16-020198.
