Blizzard watch Sunday for parts of Minnesota

Our Saturday will be pleasant, with mild temperatures.  We should see highs in the mid 30s in the Twin Cities, around 30 in Duluth and Rochester, and 32 in Brainerd.

A low pressure system will move southeastward out of Alberta late Saturday night, then across Minnesota on Sunday and Sunday night.

Winds will increase on Sunday, and some periods of snow are expected. In the Twin Cities, we will have a chance of snow showers Sunday afternoon.  Periods of snow are likely Sunday night. We could see a couple of inches of snow Sunday night, with reduced visibility as the winds pick up.

The snow begins earlier on Sunday over northern sections of Minnesota.  Winds will be very strong over western Minnesota into parts of south-central Minnesota Sunday and Sunday night, and the National Weather Service has issued a blizzard watch for those areas:

Winds could gust over 40 mph in the blizzard watch area, causing whiteout conditions.

There is also a winter storm watch for parts of northwestern Minnesota Sunday and Sunday night. The watch includes the Bemidji and Park Rapids areas, where they could see 4 inches of snow and severely reduced visibility in snow and blowing snow.
