Mpls. school board OKs new superintendent search process

The Minneapolis School Board approved a new process for finding a superintendent Tuesday night, after its previous effort failed.

This time the board wants more control over the candidate pool. Board members will recruit candidates instead of delegating the task to an executive search firm. Chair Jenny Arneson says everyone on the board will have to contribute.

"If we want an adequate pool then there will need to be nine of us activating every network that we have," she said.

A panel made up of five community members, three board members and a student representative to the board will choose the finalists.

The board aims to hire a superintendent by summer.
