Good morning. It's Tuesday, the first day of the new legislative session and a day when four states, including Michigan and Mississippi, hold presidential nominating contests.  We will carry special coverage on the radio tonight starting at 8 p.m. For now though, here's the Digest.

1. Republican House Speaker Kurt Daudt has been sued three times in the past year for not paying credit card bills. (MPR News)

2. Gov. Mark Dayton says he will not give Twin Metals Minnesota access to state land to develop a copper-nickel mine near the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. (Star Tribune)

3. Some Democrats in the Legislature are proposing a plan that would allow about 135,000 workers to take up to 12 weeks of paid leave per year to recover from a serious illness or care for a newborn or a family member. (Pioneer Press)

4. The Republican establishment is still plotting to defeat Donald Trump and now has plans for a contested GOP convention. (Washington Post)

5. Former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg says he will not launch an independent bid for president because the risk of throwing the election to the Republican-controlled House is too great. (NPR)
