Josie Johnson, a long-time community leader in Minnesota, dating back the 1950s and 60s, joined MPR News host Tom Weber to offer her perspective on the announcement that the police officers involved in the shooting death of Jamar Clark would not be charged.
"My heart and prayers are with Jamar Clark's family and with the community," Johnson said. "I sat and watched the complete report yesterday of [Hennepin County] Attorney Mike Freeman, and I was so hopeful when I learned that he was going to do the investigation and not turn the report over to the grand jury."
Despite that development, Johnson said, she was ultimately disappointed in the decision not to bring charges.
"I must admit that I watched and I was very disappointed in the selective video that was offered. I watched, I listened, I looked very carefully and I can't tell you how disappointing it was to hear him, and hear his conclusion and rationale for his decision."
In looking toward the future, she said, "We're constantly hopeful that something will turn on a legal, fair, just light in America."
