A statewide tornado drill will be held in Minnesota Thursday.
Sirens will sound around the state at 1:45 p.m. and later at 6:55 p.m.
The drill is being coordinated by the state Department of Public Safety, the National Weather Service and Hennepin County.
Emergency officials said the drill is to remind the public that when sirens sound the first step is to find shelter inside and get more information about the severe weather.
Sirens, officials said, are intended to alert people outside. Inside, they suggest people use a NOAA weather radio, a smartphone weather alert app, and track local media to learn more about severe weather.
