"Many people have pointed out that this special pass doesn't even get you a discount on anything; in fact, it usually means you are the discounted item."
But she's also said that being a woman has distinct advantages. She told MPR News host Kerri Miller that her "posse of women" always has her back when she needs them. She added that this is true of many women who decide to marry later and build strong friendships in the meantime, according to Rebecca Traister's book "All The Single Ladies."
"We're depending more on our friends...so I think the bonds are fairly close."
The bonds of female friendships are strong, but those bonds don't automatically extend beyond friends, Schrobsdorff said.
"Even women who are feminists will be skittish about another woman in a leadership role that they're not used to seeing," Schrobsdorff said. "There's internal bias, we have our own bias against women in professional roles."
