"Fargo" may not be returning until 2017, but the first official details about the third season were just released.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Ewan McGregor will play not one but two roles in the FX television adaptation of the Coen brothers' film. McGregor will star as Emmit and Ray Stussy — brothers, but not twins, at the center of the story.
From THR:
A completely new story, the Emmy darling's third season will revolve around Emmit Stussy, the parking lot king of Minnesota. A handsome, self-made, real estate mogul and family man, Emmit sees himself as an American success story.
His slightly younger brother, Ray Stussy, on the other hand is more of a cautionary tale. Balding, pot-bellied, Ray is the kind of guy who peaked in high school. Now a parole officer, Ray has a huge chip on his shoulder about the hand he's been dealt, and he blames his brother, Emmit, for his misfortunes.
McGregor is best known for his role in "Star Wars" and his breakthrough role in "Trainspotting." He hails from Scotland, making him the latest in a string of actors from the U.K. to put on their best Minnesota accents for the franchise. Martin Freeman, an English actor, played Lester Nygaard in season one.
Noah Hawley, the creator of the "Fargo" television show, has said previously that the new season would be set in 2010, and that none of the characters from season one would return.
