The Okee Dokee Brothers are on the road again.
The Minneapolis-based Grammy-winning duo are known for their children's albums based on modes of transportation. They've previously charmed the kinder-set with "Can You Canoe?", which they wrote while paddling the Mississippi, and "Through the Woods," which was inspired by hiking the Appalachian Trail.
For their newest album, they headed west and hopped on some horses. It's called "Saddle Up."
Justin Lansing and Joe Mailander were both born in raised in the Denver area, so it was a natural fit. They explored the Continental Divide, which runs through the Rocky Mountains, and they hit five states on their 30-day trip.
Lansing and Mailander joined MPR News host Tom Weber to talk about their excursion and play four new songs from "Saddle Up."
"The main goal while we were out there was to understand the music of each different place we visit," Mailander said. "We've played river songs, and blue grassy songs for the Appalachian record. For this one, we really delved into the old-time country music of the West."
