Today's Morning Edition music is from Macklemore with "White Privilege II" from his new album "This Unruly Mess I've Made."

Macklemore and his musical partner Ryan Lewis will perform tonight at Target Center in Minneapolis.

Macklemore says he was inspired to write about racism and white privilege after getting a message from an unnamed hip-hop legend. Macklemore shared the note with Rolling Stone. It said in part, "You have a platform, but silence is an action, and right now, you're being silent. You have an insight into these issues that you need to be speaking about, and, as a white rapper, it's important that you engage your audience."
