Partisan gridlock strikes many states like Minnesota

Gov. Mark Dayton and legislative leaders are expected to meet again next week to see if they can come up with an agreement on major bills that would be voted on during a special session.

After meeting this week, Gov. Dayton said there are still significant differences among the proposals offered by DFL and Republican leaders. A partisan split also prevented a compromise on major legislation during last year's session.

This inability to compromise is not unique to Minnesota. An article in the latest edition of CQ highlights gridlock because of partisan divisions happening more and more in state capitols around the country. MPR's Cathy Wurzer spoke with writer of that story, Johnathan Miller.
