Changing the conversation of race in Minnesota

When Bianca Dawkins visited Denny Kemp Salon Spa in Northeast Minneapolis, she was confronted by a stylist who described her hair as an animal that can't be tamed. Not only was he rude he also said "This is not the 1950 and 60, we can't just put up a sign in the window," inferring that the salon is for whites only.

Instead of organizing a protest and demanding that the stylist should be dismissed, Bianca organized an event to breakdown cultural barriers and provide hair advice and guidance to white stylist.

It was during this event that a stylist from the Denny Kemp Salon and Spa, apologized for his colleague behavior but also revealed that the salon had received death threats.
