Severe weather possible tonight

Strong and severe thunderstorms built across the Dakotas during the day on Saturday. This evening they have entered west central Minnesota and are tracking slightly south of eastward.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's Storm Prediction Center has issued a severe thunderstorm watch in effect until 2 a.m. for about the southwest quarter of Minnesota.

A severe thunderstorm watch is issued for the significant possibility for severe weather in the next several hours. Radar imagery from approximately 7:00 p.m. Saturday is layered onto this image.

Storms are expected to turn a bit more to the right during the evening.The Twin Cities area is likely to experience some thunderstorms during the night, likely beginning by 10 p.m., but the strongest storms should pass by to the southwest.

The National Weather Service in Chanhassen has prepared a graphic indicating some of the expected storm motion and timing.

Storms are expected to turn more to the right this evening. Some of the strongest storms are likely to impact the Minnesota River Valley.

As of about 7:35 p.m., the weather radar from the National Weather Service in Chanhassen was indicating strong to severe storms in west central Minnesota. Yellow boxes locate severe thunder storms.

Heat wave later this week

A bubble of hot, humid air will be headed our way this week and should arrive on Wednesday. Thursday will be the hottest day with highs in the 90s to low 100s and abundant humidity. Heat should hang on into Friday before a cold front sweeps it away to leave us with more-comfortable weather for next weekend.
