Warmer, with a thunderstorm chance

Saturday's high in the Twin Cities was only 68 degrees. Stubborn cloud cover over eastern Minnesota kept us from matching the lower 70s that were seen in western Minnesota.

Our Sunday will be warmer. We have nowhere to go but up!

Highs in the lower 80s are expected over much of central and southern Minnesota:

Some spots in southwestern Minnesota will see mid 80s, while parts of northeastern Minnesota will top out in the upper 70s.

Dew point temperatures will rise into the upper 60s Sunday afternoon. That'll feel muggy!

The warm front that moves through Minnesota on Sunday could help ignite some scattered thunderstorms:

The Storm Prediction Center of the National Weather Service shows a marginal risk of severe weather for northern and central Minnesota Sunday and Sunday night:

The marginal risk category indicates that an isolated severe thunderstorm is possible.

Steamy Monday

High temperatures go up another notch on Monday:

Mid to upper 80s are expected over southern and central Minnesota, with lower 80s to the north.

Dew point temperatures will hover around 70 degrees, so it'll feel steamy Monday afternoon.

Scattered thunderstorms are possible Monday and Monday night.

Cooler and less humid air spreads across Minnesota on Tuesday, and lingers into Wednesday.

Tropical update

Forecasters continue to watch an area of low pressure located near the north coast of central Cuba. The low is expected to drift west-northwestward over the next couple of days.

The National Hurricane Center states that there is a 40 percent chance that this will become a tropical cyclone within the next 48 hours:

The low could approach south Florida sometime tomorrow. If it passes into the warmer waters of the Gulf of Mexico early in the week, it could become a tropical storm or a hurricane.

The National Hurricane Center posts frequent tropical weather updates.
