Tuesday marks the father of rock 'n' roll's 90th birthday. He was born Charles Anderson Edward Berry in the segregated middle-class St. Louis neighborhood known as "The Ville." His mother was a school principal. His father was a carpenter and Baptist church deacon.
Berry started out playing the blues, but created his own sound when he incorporated country music into his repertoire. He was in the first group of musicians inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
