Man wanted for shooting death of Wis. deputy in custody

Authorities in western Wisconsin arrested a man Sunday morning who was wanted in connection with the fatal shooting of a Rusk County sheriff's deputy on Saturday night.

The sheriff's office said Deputy Dan Glaze responded to a call about a suspicious vehicle just before 11 p.m. Saturday evening. The officer radioed the department to say he'd spotted the vehicle in a field just south of the town of Ladysmith. Dispatchers lost contact with the officer, and when additional law enforcement officers arrived, they found Glaze shot to death.

The department said deputies were preparing to search a home at the scene of the incident just after 10 a.m. Sunday with an Eau Claire County robot when the suspect fired a shot at them.

In a press release, the sheriff's department said the suspect surrendered without further incident and is in jail awaiting charges.

Glaze, 33, worked in law enforcement for seven years, and had been with the Rusk County department for a year and a half.

Rusk County Sheriff Jeff Wallace asked the public to "please keep the family of the fallen officer and the men and women of the Rusk County Sheriff's Department in your prayers."
