Today's Morning Edition music is from Cecile McLorin Salvant and the Aaron Diehl Trio with "Growlin' Dan" from their latest album "For One to Love."
It's a song that was written and first recorded in 1931 by Blanche Calloway, the older sister and mentor to bandleader Cab Calloway.
In her young career, Salvant has developed a reputation for spirited reinterpretations of classic songs from the jazz era. On Wednesday night at the Dakota Jazz Club in Minneapolis, she will be joined by Diehl as they perform songs by Jelly Roll Morton and George Gershwin.
