This week Art Hounds recommend a Balkan celebration of spring, a show of prints in Fergus Falls and a dance-filled protest.
Amateur Balkan dancer and singer Jill Galstad will be at Amsterdam Bar and Hall this Sunday for "Martenitsa 2017." This Balkan celebration of spring features local music by Orkestar Bez Ime and Mila Vocal Ensemble, and is a high-energy event fit for the whole family. Galstad says it's just what the soul needs to make it through the last weeks of winter.
Writer and performance artist Bobby Kahn plans to grab his radio and head to the Hennepin County Government Center this Saturday for "ResisDance." Part protest, part dance party, this afternoon get-together is meant to give protesting a more positive vibe. Kahn says he'll be dancing for public funding for the arts and LGBT rights. Participants are asked to bring FM radios so they can all dance to the same rhythms. From 1 to 3 p.m. on the government center's South Plaza.
Fargo-Moorhead based arts organizer Jacinta Zens hopes to get down to Fergus Falls sometime soon to check out the new show of prints by Michael Weatherly at Kaddatz Gallery. Weatherly's work focuses primarily on images of women, with strong lines and bright colors. Zens says it's the last show curated by Gretchen Boyum, who is leaving Fergus Falls for Kansas. Zens says that over the past eight years Boyum has built Kaddatz Gallery into a strong cultural institution. Weatherly's prints can be seen through March 30.
