Today's Morning Edition music is from Sly and the Family Stone performing "Higher and Higher" live at the Woodstock music festival in 1969.

It's in honor of Sly Stone's 74th birthday Wednesday.

Filmmaker Michael Rubenstone says seeing this performance in the documentary about Woodstock was the start of his fascination with Sly Stone. He spent 12 years trying to get an interview with the notoriously reclusive music icon. What he found along the way is what you'll see in the new documentary "On the Sly: In Search of the Family Stone," which premiered in January at the Slamdance Film Festival.
