A gorgeous start to June; May recap

What a great way to start June and meteorological summer!

We'll have plenty of sunshine, with Thursday afternoon highs of 80 degrees or warmer in much of central and southern Minnesota.

Northern Minnesota will reach the 70s.

Humid and warmer on Friday

Southerly winds will pick up on Friday, and dew point temperatures will rise into the 60s in most of southern and central Minnesota Friday afternoon.

Southwestern Minnesota could see highs in the lower 90s Friday afternoon, with mostly 80s in the rest of Minnesota:

70s are expected along the North Shore of Lake Superior.

Saturday will feature highs in the 80s central and south, and mostly 70s north:

Rain chances

Far southern Minnesota could see an few scattered showers and even an isolated thunderstorm late Thursday night and early Friday.

There is a chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms in Minnesota late Friday afternoon and Friday night.

The color chart to the right of the loop refers to the strength of the radar signal that returns to the radar, not to the amount of rainfall.

Minnesota could see some scattered showers and thunderstorms Saturday and Saturday night, and there's a chance of a few scattered showers in northern Minnesota on Sunday.

May was a bit cool

The preliminary climate report from the National Weather Service shows that our average temperature for the month of May was six-tenths of a degree below normal in the Twin Cities:

The highlighted column shows the departure from normal each day, with negative numbers indicating cooler than normal days.

We had 20 consecutive warmer than normal months in the Twin Cities, starting in September of 2015 and continuing through April of this year!

June outlook

The June temperature outlook from the Climate Prediction Center of the NWS doesn't show either a warm or cool tendency for Minnesota:

"EC" indicates equal chances of a normal, warm or cool average monthly temperature in June.

In the Twin Cities metro area, our average high temperature rises from 74 degrees on June 1 to 83 degrees on June 30.
