MPR News guest host Marianne Combs asked University of Minnesota Extension horticulturist Julie Weisenhorn for practical advice on caring for your garden, summer planting and how to be pesticide-free and bee-friendly. They also looked at some of the best summer plants that can take the heat and still look gorgeous.

Later in the hour: Not all "would-be gardeners" have a garden. Gardening Matters' Seth Kuhl-Stennes joined Marianne to talk about the challenges of setting up a community garden and what it means to grow sustainable, local foods.
