Video shows Mpls. cop standing next to handcuffed man as he's punched

Minneapolis police are taking heat online after video surfaced Sunday showing a cop standing over a handcuffed man, as a security guard punches the man's face multiple times.

The incident took place outside a downtown club. The video, posted on Facebook, has been shared over 550 times and has some 18,000 views.

The city's Office of Police Conduct Review is investigating.

Sgt. Catherine Michal said police responded because the man had assaulted a security guard. She said the man was hit while in custody.

"It appears that an officer was near the second incident and was in the process of activating his body camera and speaking into his shoulder microphone at the time that it occurred," Michal said.

The police department is investigating the assault.

Correction (Aug. 16, 2017): An earlier version of this story incorrectly identified who was investigating the incident. The story has been updated.
