Hopkins police have arrested a man who they say used an ax to break into a house and kill a man Friday morning.
Hopkins Police officers responded to a burglary report on the 200 block of 10th Avenue North around 3:40 a.m. Friday.
Sgt. Michael Glassberg said officers found the 67-year-old victim outside.
"They were quickly able to figure out who the suspect was and he was arrested without incident on the 300 block of 9th Avenue North," said Glassberg. "There is an active harassment protection order that the victim had filed against the suspect preventing him from being anywhere on 10th Avenue North. The suspect had some type of longstanding issue with our victim."
Glassberg says the victim died of "sharp force injuries."
It is Hopkins'first homicide since 2009.
