Today's Morning Edition music is from "Tammy" by Debbie Reynolds, which was No. 1 on the Billboard pop chart 60 years.
It was the love theme for the movie "Tammy and the Bachelor," which Reynolds starred in. It was the first of four "Tammy" movies that revolved around a naive and polite young woman from Mississippi.
When Berry Gordy started his own record label in 1959 he wanted to name it Tammy Records after the song, but that name was taken so he called the label Tamla instead. Tamla would eventually become Motown Records.
