We've logged just .11 inch of rainfall so far in September at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport. That's about to change.
Showers slide northeast on Monday across southern Minnesota. Most of today's rain is on the light to moderate side. Umbrellas out. Wipers (and headlights) on. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's High-Resolution Rapid Refresh model lays out Monday's rain zone.
Wet week overall
Today's showers produce lighter rainfall totals generally around one-quarter inch for much of southern Minnesota. A second shot of thunderstorms rolls through Tuesday night. Multiple waves of thunderstorms arrive by next weekend.

Overall, many of us pick up 1 to 2 inches-plus in the next week. Some heavier multi-inch totals favor western and central Minnesota.
Strong storms Tuesday night
A wave of storms Tuesday night could be severe in the Dakotas. Intensity may fade overnight as it rolls east into Minnesota, but a few storms could still be on the strong side to marginally severe.
Summery relapse
After today's cool gray start, summer-like weather returns this week. Humidity and a shot at 90 degrees by Friday?
More tropical trouble
Here we go again. After a blissfully quiet week in the tropics, Hurricanes Jose and Maria make news this week.
Tropical Storm Warnings are up for the east coast for Jose from the Jersey Shore, through Long Island to Cape Cod.
Tropical storm force winds arrive in the next 24 hours along the East Coast.
Jose is a massive wave machine. Beach erosion is already occurring.
Maria looks devastating
Maria looks ready to deal a devastating blow to the Caribbean Islands. Puerto Rico is in harm's way for an increasingly likely and devastating category 4 direct hit Wednesday.
Puerto Rico is bracing for a major hurricane. Maria is forecast to be Category 4 with 140 mph winds at landfall Wednesday.
All persons in the affected Caribbean Islands need to rush preparations to completion. Unfortunately, we're about to watch another major hurricane strike for our Caribbean neighbors.
