MnDOT said earlier on Monday that the tunnel would close Tuesday night as well, but later said that closure was postponed.
The tunnel will not close Friday and Sunday as originally planned because of a scheduled closure on Interstate 35W nearby — both directions between Highway 62 and I-94 will be closed all weekend.
Crews were not scheduled to work on the tunnel Saturday.
The detour will take motorists off I-94 west at the Hennepin/Lyndale avenues exit.
The eastbound side of the tunnel will remain open.
During the closures, crews will be installing curb, permanent striping and lighting inside the tunnel.
The work is part of the I-94 Minneapolis to Brooklyn Center project that started in March.
Speaking of Brooklyn Center, I-94 east from Interstate 694 to Highway 252 is now open; it had been closed since 10 p.m. Friday for paving.
