A documentary about the life and work of journalist and social activist Dorothy Day. She founded the Catholic Worker movement, which established soup kitchens and housing in the Great Depression of the 1930s.
Hundreds of Catholic worker facilities remain in operation today, including Catholic Charities in downtown St. Paul. Day promoted what she called "works of mercy" not "works of war."
Day was born November 8, 1897 and died in 1980 at the age of 83.
The documentary was produced by David Freudberg for the Humankind series, in association with WGBH Boston.
