Kamasi Washington will be performing Thursday night at First Avenue in Minneapolis.
It's an unusual venue for a jazz artist, but Washington has attracted a lot of mainstream hip-hop fans through his collaborations with artists like Kendrick Lamar and Snoop Dogg.
Washington's first solo album, a three-disc set called "The Epic," inspired some critics to proclaim him as the "future of jazz."
