The Duluth City Council adopted a 2018 budget Monday night. The budget includes a hike in local property taxes, and additional money for street repairs.
When Duluth Mayor Emily Larson took office nearly two years ago, she pledged to continue Duluth's momentum and to share that growing prosperity throughout the city.
"My vision is of a healthy, prosperous, sustainable, fair and inclusive community for all neighborhoods," she later said in her first State of the City speech, stressing that Duluth needs to break down racial and geographic disparities.
Those disparities include infrastructure issues that deter businesses and residents from moving into certain areas of Duluth.
Larson has called for a revitalization of the West side of town which is undergoing a hefty renovation along Superior Street.
Larson stopped by the studio to talk to MPR's Tom Weber about her city and the issues facing it.
