A 20-year-old woman will serve six months in jail for killing her boyfriend in a northern Minnesota video stunt gone wrong.
Judge Jeffrey Remick sentenced Monalisa Perez in Ada, Minn. on Wednesday. In June 2017, Perez and Pedro Ruiz attempted to film a stunt in which Perez fired a .50 caiber handgun from close range into a book held by Ruiz. The bullet penetrated the book and killed Ruiz.
Hours before the shooting, Perez tweeted: "Me and Pedro are probably going to shoot one of the most dangerous videos ever. HIS idea not MINE."
Perez, who lived in Halstad, Minn. pled guilty to second degree manslaughter. She can serve her sentence in 10 day increments.
Perez now lives in South Dakota and will be allowed to serve her sentence in a jail there.
Judge Remick also banned Perez from owning handguns, ammunition or explosives for life. She will be on probation for 10 years.
