The truth? First-graders can't handle the truth!

That's why a New Jersey substitute teacher is out of a job.

In Montclair, N.J., last Thursday, a student said Santa Claus is real. The sub, whose name is not being released, begged to differ, spilling the goods not only on Santa, but also the Easter Bunny, Tooth Fairy, Elf on a Shelf, and the fortune-granting powers of leprechauns, according to NJ.com.

No mythical creatures went unscathed.

The Cedar Hill School sent a letter to parents apologizing for the teacher's role in helping the students get wise.

"As a father of four myself, I am truly aware of the sensitive nature of this announcement," principal Michael Raj said, saying he was informing parents "so that you are aware of the situation and if the conversation comes up at home over the next few days you can take appropriate steps to maintain the childhood innocence of the holiday season."

Aware of the situation? What's the first thing a first-grader would blurt out when coming home from school on a day a teacher ruins Christmas? Oh, they're informed.

You know the kids will never forget the day they learned the truth.

The comments are about what you'd expect.
