Politics Friday: Hands-free bill and shutdown

It's day 35 of the partial federal government shutdown and Minnesotans are hurt. MPR News host Angela Davis spoke with Minnesota Management and Budget Commissioner Myron Frans about how the shutdown is impacting the state and local businesses. She also spoke with Oran Beaulieu, Red Lake Nation tribal health director, about how American Indian reservations are getting hit the worst.

Then, MPR News host Mike Mulcahy spoke with state Rep. Frank Hornstein, DFL-Minneapolis, and Rep. Scott Newman, R-Hutchinson, about whether or not the hands-free cellphone bill will triumph this session. They spoke about the gas tax and other transportation issues.
