The ice is out on most lakes across the state, and anglers have prepared their gear and made their plans for Saturday's Minnesota fishing opener.

It's the annual start of the season for catching walleye, northern pike and several other species across the state. Among the anglers who will be out on a lake for the opener is Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, who will be taking part in the 72nd annual Governor's Fishing Opener on Fountain Lake in Albert Lea — his first as governor.
