National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Storm Prediction Center has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for northeast Minnesota until 10 p.m. Friday. The watch area includes Duluth, Ely, the Boundary Waters Canoe Area, Iron Range and North Shore communities.
Storms have developed and are moving eastward across northeast Minnesota. The stronger storms will produce large hail and potentially damaging winds. A few storms may develop as far south as the Twin Cities late Friday afternoon and evening. The highest risk for severe weather is across northeast Minnesota and northern Wisconsin.

The NWS Storm Prediction Center has issued a * Severe Thunderstorm Watch for portions of Northern Minnesota Northern Wisconsin Lake Superior * Effective this Friday afternoon and evening from 230 PM until 1000 PM CDT. *
Primary threats include... Scattered large hail and isolated very large hail events to 2 inches in diameter possible Scattered damaging wind gusts to 70 mph possible A tornado or two possible
SUMMARY...Thunderstorms are expected to intensify over northern MN this afternoon and track eastward across the watch area. A few supercells capable of large hail and damaging winds are expected. An isolated tornado cannot be ruled out. The severe thunderstorm watch area is approximately along and 65 statute miles north and south of a line from 55 miles west of Hibbing MN to 25 miles south southeast of Grand Marais MN.
