The Beatles recorded their song “The End” 50 years ago on Wednesday.
The drum solo at the top is unusual for a Beatles song, because Ringo and his bandmates thought drum solos were pretentious. Paul McCartney convinced Ringo to do it this one time, on what Paul was planning as the last song on the last album they ever recorded. The song also features dueling guitar solos by each of the other three Beatles.
