Prince’s song “Batdance” was No. 1 on the Billboard pop chart 30 years ago today. The song uses clips from director Tim Burton’s 1989 version of the Batman story, but it is not part of the movie soundtrack.
After he was approached to create music for the film, Prince came up with a number of songs and Burton used about half of them. Prince then released a Batman soundtrack album which included the songs that didn't make it into the film, including “Batdance.”
