Chic was No. 1 on the Billboard pop chart 40 years ago today with “Good Times.”
The song was influential as well as popular: Chic’s bass player, Bernard Edwards, told the “New Musical Express” that he taught his counterpart in Queen the bass line, which ended up in “Another One Bites the Dust.”
“Good Times” has also been sampled many times by hip hop artists, starting with the first rap song to become a Top-40 hit, “Rapper’s Delight.”
