The University of Minnesota football team begins a new season on Thursday night, when they take on South Dakota State at TCF Bank Stadium in Minneapolis.

This will be head coach P.J. Fleck’s third season with the Gophers. Last year, the team finished 7-6, including a win in the Quick Lane Bowl.

MPR News host Cathy Wurzer checked in with Star Tribune sports journalist Megan Ryan for a preview of the season.
