Duluth police say they’ve arrested a suspect in the fire that destroyed the Adas Israel Congregation synagogue early Monday morning.

The Duluth Police and Fire departments will hold a press conference Sunday at 11 a.m. at Duluth City Hall to discuss the arrest and the conclusion of the investigation into the fire.

The 120-year-old synagogue in downtown Duluth collapsed in two places early Monday morning as it took firefighters five hours to hose it down. One firefighter was injured by falling debris and treated at the hospital but was soon released.

Steve Hunegs, executive director of the Jewish Community Relations Council of Minnesota and the Dakotas, said in a statement that they will continue to work with the departments as the investigation continues.

“We wish the Duluth Jewish community a peaceful and restful Shabbat as we continue to offer our full support,” Hunegs said.
