Weekend forecast includes Sunday flakes; snow depth update

Breezy by Sunday afternoon

We were dealing with a winter storm last weekend. Freezing rain and snow interrupted the outdoor plans of many people. This coming weekend will be much nicer.

Our average Twin Cities high temp is 24 degrees this time of year.

We’ll see highs in the 20s Saturday afternoon across most of Minnesota and western Wisconsin:

Snow depths

If you have outdoor plans this weekend, you’ll be happy to know that there’s plenty of snow on the ground across most of Minnesota and Wisconsin. Here’s today’s snow depth analysis from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration:

rt0102snow
Thursday morning snow depth
NOAA/NWS

There are between 12 and 20 inches of snow on the ground across much of northern Minnesota and far northern Wisconsin. There are more than 20 inches across most of northeastern Minnesota. Central Minnesota is mainly in the 8 to 12 inch snow depth range, and we have between 4 to 8 inches of snow depth in the Twin Cities metro area. The Thursday snow depth report was 5 inches at MSP airport, 8 inches in St. Cloud, 12 inches in Alexandria, 21 inches in Duluth and 16 inches in International Falls.

There’s ample snow on the ground for cross-country skiers, sledders and snowboarders. There’s even enough snow cover for snowmobiling in much of Minnesota and northern Wisconsin.

Have some weekend fun in the snow!
