Buckle up, northeast Minnesota.

A winter storm watch goes into effect from 6 p.m. Wednesday through Thursday afternoon.

The system

Low pressure tracks across Minnesota Wednesday night and Thursday. Snowfall favors the northeast part of Minnesota. The Twin Cities could see a mix of light rain and snow Thursday.

Snowfall totals across central and northern Minnesota will be less than an inch in many areas. But several inches are likely in the far north and along Lake Superior.

1000 AM CST Wed Jan 8 2020 ...WINTER STORM WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 6 PM CST THIS EVENING THROUGH THURSDAY AFTERNOON... ...WIND CHILL ADVISORY WILL EXPIRE AT 10 AM CST THIS MORNING...

* WHAT...Heavy snow possible. Some freezing drizzle is also possible. Total snow accumulations of 3 to 6 inches is likely with some areas receiving amounts greater than 6 inches. Ice accumulations of a light glaze possible.

* WHERE...Northern Cook and Lake, Southern Cook and Southern Lake Counties. This includes the Tribal Lands of the Grand Portage Reservation.

* WHEN...From 6 PM CST this evening through Thursday afternoon.

* IMPACTS...Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute. The cold wind chills as low as 20 below zero could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes.
