Our well-advertised springlike storm system is crossing Minnesota on schedule Thursday.

A springlike rain continues for most of southern Minnesota. Heavier showers are sweeping southern Minnesota south of the Twin Cities. The Twin Cities Doppler radar shows the (mostly) rain shield crossing southern Minnesota as of mid-afternoon.

Surface reports indicate a little snow mixing in now on the backside of the system in western Minnesota.

Colder air will change rain to snow in a narrow zone on the backside of the system Thursday evening. NOAA’s NAM 3 km resolution model shows the trend.

Expect a couple of hours of snow before precipitation ends tonight. After a lot of model uncertainty this week, it looks like just a light snowy coating on grassy areas for many of us in southern Minnesota.

50s next week

Our passing cold front blows in colder air tonight into Saturday. But temperatures begin to warm again by Sunday. Highs likely reach the low 50s again early next week in the Twin Cities and southern Minnesota
