Two dead in separate shootings in St. Paul; suspects in custody

Two men are dead after separate shootings about 10 minutes apart Friday night in St. Paul.

Authorities said suspects are in custody in both homicides.

According to police, the first fatal shooting happened at about 9:15 p.m. at a convenience store near the corner of Maryland Avenue East and Duluth Street.

Officers responding to reports of shots fired found the victim inside the store; he was pronounced dead at the scene. Reports from witnesses, and evidence at the scene, led police to a suspect who was later taken into custody.

There were no further details on what led up to the shooting.

The second fatal shooting happened about 10 minutes later, after a vehicle crash near the intersection of U.S. Highway 61 and Burns Avenue. According to a police news release, witnesses told police that "both drivers got out of their vehicles and argued. At some point, one of the drivers shot the other, leaving him lying in the road as bystanders rendered aid."

The wounded man later died at a hospital. The suspect was arrested near the scene.

The names of the men who died have not been released.
