Big changes are on the way for Minnesota’s weather patterns in the next week.
If you like variety, you’ll enjoy the latest 7-day forecast. Over the next week, we’ll see sunny days near 70 degrees, showers, and our first shot of real summerlike heat and humidity next week.
Showery Wednesday
We begin with some light rain Wednesday as a warm front triggers scattered showers. NOAA’s NAM 3 km resolution model paints the shower zones moving across Minnesota from west to east Wednesday.
Overall rainfall looks light Wednesday. Most forecast models deliver around .2 inches rainfall for the Twin Cities and southern Minnesota. heavier showers may wring out up around .5 inches across northern Minnesota.

Springy into the weekend
Milder temperatures more typical of mid-May arrive starting Thursday. Friday looks downright glorious with sunny skies, light winds and highs near 70 degrees. Summerlike temperatures arrive by Monday.
The weekend forecast is still in flux on various forecast models. Some suggest mainly sunny skies. Some bring a batch of rain showers in mainly Saturday night into Sunday morning.
Hot front next week
All major forecast models agree the warmest air mass of 2020 so far blows in next week. The upper air forecast maps continue to build an amplified high-pressure dome over the Upper Midwest next week.
The Canadian model seems to have a good handle on temperatures next week. Check out the map, it cranks out highs in the 90s across most of Minnesota by next Wednesday and Thursday.
I haven’t seen this much red on the weather maps in nine months.
Stay tuned.
