The Minneapolis City Council will hold an emergency meeting Friday about the future of the city’s police department. The meeting comes amid fallout for the department after George Floyd was killed last week while in police custody.
The council is expected to vote on the terms of a proposed restraining order for the department as part of the state’s civil rights investigation. But in advance of that meeting, some council members said on Twitter that the city’s police department should be dismantled altogether. MPR News host Cathy Wurzer spoke to Minneapolis City Council President Lisa Bender about today’s vote — and what other changes may be in the works.
