St. Paul police are investigating the shooting death of a woman early Saturday morning.
Authorities said it happened at about 1 a.m. amid a large fight in the parking lot of a business on the 100 block of Larpenteur Avenue West.
Officers responding to a call of shots fired "found vehicles leaving the scene, but no one injured," according to a police news release. "A short time later, Ramsey County sheriff's deputies, who were aware of the call, witnessed a car traveling at a high rate of speed northbound on Rice Street at Owasso Boulevard. They believed this vehicle may have been involved in the incident on Larpenteur and stopped it. Inside the vehicle they found a female passenger suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the head."
Deputies provided first aid until paramedics arrived, but the woman was pronounced dead.
The victim's name has not been released; at last report there were no arrests.
